For much of her life, Meraiah Ekeinde has been known by the name that comes before hers — Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.
She grew up in one of Nigeria’s most recognisable entertainment families, with a mother whose career has kept her in the public eye for decades. But while the Ekeinde family name opened the door to public attention, Meraiah has gradually been building a story of her own.
Now, at 26, she has reached another major turning point.
On August 12, 2026, Meraiah announced that she is engaged, giving her followers a glimpse of a new phase of her life.
But before this latest announcement, there was a journey that took her from the daughter of a famous actress to a young woman building her own identity in fashion, education and the creative space.
Growing Up Omotola’s Daughter

Meraiah Ekeinde was born on February 7, 2000, to Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Captain Matthew Ekeinde. She is the couple’s third child and second daughter, with three siblings named Princess, Matthew Jr., popularly known as Captain E, and Michael.
There is also a special connection between Meraiah and her mother, they share the same birthday. Over the years, Omotola has sometimes shared glimpses of her family with the public, allowing fans to watch her children grow from young children into adults.
Meraiah, however, began attracting attention of her own while she was still a teenager.
In 2015, she graduated from Chrisland College in Lagos, where she had served as Head Girl. Her graduation was one of the early moments that showed that there was more to her public identity than simply being Omotola’s daughter.
That same year, Meraiah also stepped into the world of brand endorsements alongside her mother.
In May 2015, she and Omotola became ambassadors for Knorr, featuring in the brand’s campaign focused on raising awareness about iron deficiency among women and teenage girls. The mother-and-daughter partnership gave Meraiah one of her earliest major appearances in the commercial world.
The campaign also offered the public a glimpse of the close relationship between the teenager and her famous mother. At the time, Meraiah was described as Omotola’s “mini-me”, a description that reflected both their physical resemblance and the attention surrounding their relationship.
Finding Her Own Path
After secondary school, Meraiah moved to the United States to continue her education. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, developing an interest in fashion and product development.
By 2019, at 19, reports said she had completed two degrees, an Associate of Arts in Merchandise Product Development and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
The combination reflected the direction she appeared to be taking: fashion was important to her, but so was the business side of the industry. Her interests also extended into modelling.
In June 2018, Meraiah featured in a campaign for international cosmetics brand Too Faced for its Born This Way foundation range. At the time, the 17-year-old modelled the Truffle shade for the campaign, marking another step into the international fashion and beauty space.
It was another indication that Meraiah was gradually establishing a public identity beyond her mother’s acting career.
Rather than following Omotola directly into acting, she pursued a path that brought together fashion, business, modelling and creative work.
That distinction matters because Meraiah’s story has never really been about replacing her mother’s name with her own. Instead, she has been finding her own interests while growing up within a family that is already well known.
The Daughter Who Still Shows Up for Mum
Even as Meraiah built a life away from Nigeria, her relationship with her mother remained visible. One of the clearest examples came in March 2026.
Omotola was preparing for a major career milestone: the Lagos premiere of Mother’s Love, her first feature film as a director after three decades in Nollywood.
The premiere took place on March 1 at Alliance Française in Ikoyi, Lagos, ahead of the film’s nationwide cinema release on March 6. The event attracted prominent guests, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo. But one of the more personal moments of the night involved Meraiah.
She had travelled from the United States to Nigeria without telling her mother that she would be attending the premiere. Her appearance therefore came as a surprise to Omotola and became one of the memorable family moments from the event.
That surprise also offered a glimpse into the relationship between the two women.
Omotola had spent years in front of the camera. In 2026, she was stepping behind it for the first time as a feature-film director. And on a night that celebrated that transition, her daughter travelled across the Atlantic simply to be there.
It was a small but telling reminder that even as Meraiah’s life has taken her in her own direction, family remains an important part of it.
Then Came the Engagement
Five months after that surprise appearance in Lagos, Meraiah had a major announcement of her own.
On Wednesday, August 12, she revealed that she is engaged. She shared the news through a black-and-white video showing moments from a beachside proposal. The cinematic clip captured Meraiah and her partner sharing affectionate moments before she showed off her engagement ring.
But there was one thing she did not reveal. Meraiah chose to keep her fiancé’s identity private. His face was only partly visible in the video, with the camera angles and framing keeping much of his identity away from the public. That decision immediately created curiosity among her followers, but Meraiah did not offer further details about him or their relationship. Instead, she kept the announcement simple.
“New chapter,” she wrote.
The post was quickly met with congratulatory messages from friends, family members and well-wishers. Her mother, Omotola, and her siblings also celebrated the announcement by reposting the video. Her father, Captain Matthew Ekeinde, joined the celebration with a short but telling comment:
“Finally I can talk about this ❤️❤️❤️❤️”
For now, however, Meraiah has chosen to keep the details of the relationship largely to herself. There has been no public account of how long the couple have been together, the details of the proposal or when they plan to get married.
What she has shared is enough to mark the moment without giving away everything.
A New Chapter for Meraiah
Meraiah’s engagement comes at a point when her public identity has already changed considerably from the one she had as a teenager.
In 2015, she was the teenage daughter of one of Nollywood’s biggest stars, graduating from secondary school and appearing beside her mother in a major brand campaign.
By 2018, she was appearing in an international beauty campaign.
By 2019, she had completed her university education with qualifications in merchandise product development and business management.
And in the years since, she has continued to build a career around fashion, product development, modelling and creative work.
She has done all of this while remaining connected to the family that first introduced her to the public.
Now, marriage is becoming another part of that story. The engagement announcement does not erase the identity that came with being Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s daughter. If anything, it adds another layer to it.
For years, Nigerians watched Meraiah grow up. They saw her as a child in Omotola’s family pictures, a teenager becoming Head Girl, a young woman stepping into fashion and modelling, and a daughter who would still fly across the Atlantic to surprise her mother at an important career milestone.
At 26, she is now entering a different stage. And this time, the announcement came in her own words.
A new chapter.
