October 2 in Nigerian History: 20 Students Were Killed In Adamawa

On October 2, 2012, at least 20 students were gunned down in Mubi, Adamawa State.


The gunmen reportedly stormed off-campus lodges around the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, calling out victims by name before shooting them at close range.

Security sources confirmed the attack, which occurred between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., left about 20 persons dead, mostly students of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi and other tertiary institutions.

Many residents fled their homes as soldiers and police cordoned off the area. The town was placed under heavy security while investigations commenced.

The Adamawa State Police Command, which confirmed the casualty figure, said it had launched a manhunt for the assailants and assured that normalcy would be restored.
