Kagara Abduction: Simi reacts to alleged ransom paid to bandits

Simisola Kosoko, popularly called Simi, a popular Nigerian singer-songwriter, has reacted to the news on the alleged ransom paid to bandits by the Federal government.

Reports making the rounds suggest that a huge sum was paid to secure the release of the abducted students and staff members of the Government Science College, Kagara who were kidnapped on Wednesday.

In a tweet to her 3.3million followers on Saturday, the Duduke singer said,

“Paying off people that are preying on the innocent, but the majority of the people languishing in poverty have to settle for crumbs that are not even getting to them.”

Her tweet has gathered reactions from followers who have expressed dissatisfaction with the way the government is handling cases relating to bandits.

One follower said, “This government dey ment wella! Why pay killers of innocent Nigerians while you watch the remaining Nigerians suffer even in the midst of plenty?”

Another follower added, “The Govt is only encouraging more people to go into banditry bcoz those in power are making it looks legit. How much does a graduate earns working for private organisations? Yet you pay bandits and give them amnesty after killing our soldiers.”

“Goes to show that the world respects/ fears predators. They say don’t be a bully yet they compensate the bully for being one. They can’t even make an example of one to deter others. If this was stock business, banditry stock will only go up with all these nonsense Govt moves,“ says another follower.

Fed up with the state if things another user said, “The abnormal has become the normal in our Nation. It is all beyond comprehension…sigh.”
