Nigerian musician, Mr 2Kay, has confirmed that the 2017 robbery incident at popular Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos state affected him psychologically.

Speaking in a recent interview, the 33-year-old singer, christened Abinye David Jumbo, said he already forgave Burna Boy who was said to have arranged the attack carried out on October 22, 2017.

Although Mr 2Kay said he couldn’t recall what caused the bad blood between him and Burna Boy that led to the latter sending thugs to beat him up, however, he hinted that their beef started when he spoke about the ‘Odogwu’ crooner.

“I cannot really give you all the details. To be honest with you, I have taken my mind off it because”, he stipulated, adding that “I think it all started from an interview when a journalist asked me a question and I answered”.

“But, he (Burna Boy) did not get it the right way. He flared up, and it led to something else. We then exchanged some messages on social media before the incident happened.”

“At some point, it was affecting me mentally”, narrating how the incident affected his mental health, he explained; “Whenever I heard doors opening, or I saw people with guns, flashes of the incident came back to me”.

Mr 2Kay who rose to limelight through his 2013 hit single titled ‘Bubugaga’, noted that Burna Boy and those he sent to violate him contacted him to beg for his forgiveness, which he obliged and withdrew charges he pressed against them.

He told Punch why he forgave the Grammy-nominated singer, saying; “The incident happened about four years ago. We went back and forth on the case for some time.

“At some point, the guys who carried out the attack were arrested and were locked up for over two years. Their parents and Burna Boy’s people kept begging. At the end of the day, I decided to withdraw the case out of court.

“A lot of people that I respect, including my godfather (Tonye Princewill), and kinsmen reached out to me. I listened to those people and withdrew the case.”

“He reached out to me (to apologise) when the case was very ‘hot’. He actually called me, though that part was never put out in the public. It was quite a long conversation and he apologised,” Mr 2Kay said.
