Buni commends troops for repelling attack on Yobe community during Sallah 

Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni has praised troops who repelled an attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Geidam town of the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that there was an attempt to attack the insurgents on Wednesday when many residents were still celebrating Eid-el-Kabir.

The governor, in a statement, described the soldiers’ act as “uncommon bravery”.

“It is heartwarming that although the enemy withdrew, the soldiers gallantly pursued them and cleared an ambush mounted on their way,” he said.

“The government and people of Yobe appreciate this act of bravery to secure the general area and allow the people of Geidam to continue celebrating the Sallah festivities peacefully”

“You have done us proud, the government and people of the state will continue to support you.”

The governor also hailed the commander for mobilising his men to confront the ”enemy outside the town”.

He called on the people to always provide useful and timely information to the security operatives to enhance proactive measures against such attacks.

“You are advised to volunteer timely information on suspicious movements around your communities to the security and other relevant authorities to enhance timely response,” he said.

About two thousand people were reportedly displaced after Boko Haram insurgents took hold of the town in April.
