Hushpuppi: Kyari appears before panel, mounts defence against FBI’s indictment

The suspended suspended former Head of the Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, had appeared before the Special Investigation Panel, headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike.

The embattled ‘super cop’ reportedly presented his defence to the SIP at the Force headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the Special Investigation Panel’s session with DCP Kyari ended around 8pm.

According to PUNCH, a source said, “The panel started sitting since Monday. Kyari appeared before the panel members today (Tuesday) during which he presented his defence to the indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to the SIP members. The panel would take it from there.”

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the United States Department of Justice had said ongoing investigations showed that Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, commonly known as Hushpuppi allegedly bribed Kyari to arrest one Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, one of his accomplices in Nigeria.

In to a court document released by the United States Department of Justice on Wednesday, titled: ‘Six Indicted in International Scheme to Defraud Qatari School Founder and then Launder over $1 Million in Illicit Proceeds’, Kyari was said to have been bribed to arrest one Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, 40, in Nigeria, who created bogus documents and arranged for the creation of a fake bank website and phone banking line to support the defrauding of a business person trying to provide $1.1m for the funding of a school in Qatar.

Following the indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, recommended the immediate suspension of Kyari.

Which which he was suspended and replaced by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu as the new Head of the Intelligence Response Team.
