Trigger-happy customs officers allegedly open fire on Katsina villagers

Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service allegedly stormed Fadi Gurje and opened fire on villagers at Mani Local Government Area of Katsina state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, SP. Isah Gambo, who disclosed this said the trigger-happy customs personnel allegedly stormed the village shooting sporadically into the air while riding their patrol vehicle.

Gambo said in the course of the attack, the customs officers allegedly shot one Auwal Sani on the leg who is currently at the Katsina Orthopaedic Hospital.

The yet to be identified customs personnel were said to have disappeared into thin air immediately after the attack.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that customs operatives were accused of attacking the convoy of the Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, where they riddled one of his vehicles with bullets.

He said, “Report reaching my desk reveals that Nigerian Custom Service personnel inside a patrol vehicle stormed Fadi Gurje village, Mani LGA of Katsina state firing several shots into the air and escaped to unknown destination.

“Consequently, one Auwal Sani, M, aged 35 years of the same address was shot on the leg. Victim was rushed to Orthopedic Hospital, Katsina for treatment.

“Efforts are ongoing with a view of finding the identity of the erring officers and bringing them to justice. The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State has called for calm in the affected community and enjoins them to go about their lawful business as the police are working closely with the Nigerian Customs Service’s leadership with a view to resolve the problem and bringing perpetrators to book,” SP. Gambo Isah said

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Danbaba Isah, is yet to react to the development as that the time of filling this report.
