21 escaped Jos Prison inmates rearrested

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Plateau Command, has apprehended 21 inmates who escaped from the Jos detention facility after gunmen attacked it.

ASC Geofrey Longdiem, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), made the announcement on Tuesday in Jos.

On November 28, gunmen stormed the custodial facility, killing a Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officer and nine inmates, while 252 inmates escaped.

Mr Mohammed Tukur, NCoS’s Deputy Controller General in charge of Operations, blamed the attack on a lack of modern equipment and other gadgets.

Longdiem stated that the Service was working tirelessly with other security agencies to apprehend the remaining inmates.

“As at today, we have recaptured 21 of the inmates who escaped during the last attack at our custodial centre in Jos,” he said

He said some of the inmates voluntarily returned.

Two of the inmates were brought back to the custodial centre by their mothers.
