I have no reason to dump PDP for APC – Zamfara lawmaker

Hon. Usman Zurmi

Hon. Usman Zurmi, a lawmaker in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, has asked why Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle is bothering the state’s number one opposition party, the PDP, claiming that he became governor through the party he is now haunting.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau, the state capital, the lawmaker stated that the APC-led government in the state does not want any opposition.

“I’m really surprised why things are happening this way. The court has given an order that everyone should maintain status quo but the government does not want to obey the court order,” he lamented.

Fielding questions from this medium on how he coordinates with other members of the State House of Assembly since he is the only PDP member in the House of Assembly, the lawmaker said the business of lawmaking is not personal or a party affair.

The lawmaker who is the chairman committee on tertiary institutions said that he is opposed to the idea of every member defecting to APC from PDP, saying that one cannot bite the fingers that fed him or her.

“I don’t have any problem with my colleagues because of my refusal to defect to APC. Even though I am alone in the House, there has never been any problem.”

Hon. Zurmi lamented that nobody can force him to dump PDP for APC, saying that PDP brought him to the House and he would not betray the trust.

It would be recalled that when Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle decamped to the All Progressive Congress (APC) with his supporters and members of the State House of Assembly, the lawmaker refused to defect with them.

He told newsmen that he did not decamp because there was no reason reasonable enough for him to dump the party that brought him to power.
