Police Arrest one over children’s abduction from church on good Friday

Police in Ogun State on Saturday said two children were abducted at a popular Celestial Church of Christ in Ijeja, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Spokesperson for the state’s police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in statement on Saturday, disclosed that the kids were abducted in the church premises during the ‘Good Friday’ service.

According to Oyeyemi, a suspect, Sikiru Famuyiwa has been apprehended over his alleged complicity in the the abduction.

Famuyiwa allegedly conspired with an accomplice at large to abduct the kids.

He disclosed that the suspect were arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ibara Divisional Police Headquarters.

He stated that the kids had been rescued.

According to him, the suspect and his fleeing accomplice sneaked into the children department of the church and took away the two minors, whose ages are between two and three years.

He said, “On their way out with the stolen children, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised alarm, consequence upon which the congregants pursued them and apprehended one of them.”

Oyeyemi said following the distress call, the DPO Ibara division, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from angry mob who were about to lynch him.

He said Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

Oyeyemi added the CP also ordered that the accomplice must be tracked down and brought to book.
