2023 election: Tinubu meets Tompolo, others in Niger Delta

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is slated to return to Delta State today to meet with High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo nicknamed Tompolo as part of his strategic engagement of stakeholders ahead of the 2023 election.

According to Gbaramatu voice, Tinubu will visit Tompolo privately and also meet with leaders of ex-militants in the oil-rich region.

Tinubu visited Delta State around two weeks ago, where he started the APC’s campaign for the 2023 election in a well-attended event in Warri.

Tinubu, on the other hand, is slated to begin his latest tour by visiting Oporoza, the ancestral headquarters of the Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta state’s Warri South West Local Government Area.

The APC presidential candidate is due to pay respect to His Royal Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom.

He will then travel to the residence of Tompolo, a former leader of the disbanded Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), for a private meeting. 1

Tompolo, who is also the chief priest of the Egbesu deity, has been at the forefront of attempts to combat Niger Delta oil theft.

The NNPC Limited recently awarded his company an N48 billion oil pipeline surveillance contract.

According to some, huge oil theft in the Niger Delta lies at the basis of Nigeria’s ongoing economic woes.
