Rivers varsity student dies after falling from moving vehicle during jean carnival

Though rushed to the hospital, the student did not survive his injuries


An unidentified student has lost his life during the Students Week Jeans Carnival held at Rivers State University (RSU) in Port Harcourt on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

He fell down from a moving vehicle and was promptly taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to their injuries.

In response to this unfortunate incident, Dr. Sydney Enyindah, the university’s registrar, issued a memo announcing the suspension of all other activities planned for the students’ week

“Following the unfortunate and sad incident which occurred during the “Jeans Carnival” on Tuesday 5th September, 2023, resulting in the death of a student, the Management of the University has directed the immediate suspension of the remaining activities of the Student Union Week,” the memo reads.

In another news, WithinNigeria reported that a student from the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), named Atanda Modupe Deborah, who was in her second year, was found dead.

She went missing after going to her class for a night reading session on Monday, September 4. Her roommates became worried when she didn’t return and reported her missing. Other students joined in the search and found her belongings near a large pond.

Sadly, on Wednesday, September 6, she was discovered buried in a shallow grave behind her faculty. Her eyes had been removed, and she had suffered severe head injuries, indicating that she may have been raped.

According to the Ekiti State Police Command, 10 individuals have been apprehended in relation to the demise of Modupe Deborah, a student at Federal University, Oye Ekiti. DSP Abutu Sunday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, shared this information on X (formerly Twitter).
