Liberia: President Suspends Over 450 Officials for Failing to Declare Assets

Joseph Boakai

Liberian President Joseph Boakai, committed to tackling corruption, suspended more than 450 government-appointed officials on Wednesday for failing to declare their assets.

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) identified 457 officials, including the minister responsible for the budget and several ambassadors, who missed the asset declaration deadline in November. The country’s code of conduct for state officials mandates this requirement.

According to the president’s office statement, the officials will be “suspended for one month without pay or until they submit the required declarations.”

Liberian law mandates public officials declare their assets when assuming and leaving office.

Boakai, elected in November 2023, “remains steadfast in his commitment to good governance, integrity, and the rule of law,” the statement added.
