- No reason has been given for his resignation but it’s gathered that it may not be unconnected to efforts to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the assembly
The Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojeed Fatai, on Monday resigned from his position amid the leadership impasse rocking the legislative body.
He announced his resignation, which takes immediate effect, at a plenary
presided over by Speaker Mojisola Meranda who has since also resigned from his position.
“I hereby tender my resignation as the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, effective today, March 3, 2025.”
His stepping down followed a meeting between Meranda, ousted speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and the lawmakers of the Assembly, which was held outside the chambers.
No reason has been given for his resignation but it’s gathered that it may not be unconnected to efforts to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the assembly and the eventual return of Obasa as speaker.
Within Nigeria had earlier reported that Obasa has been reinstated as the speaker of the assembly following Meranda resignation.
Drama started in January when lawmakers impeached Obasa for misappropriation and swore in his deputy, Meranda.
