A tanker explosion in Kaduna has reportedly claimed the lives of many people in the northwest state.
The incident occurred on Monday at about 8:30 a.m. near Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, from Kwangila to Dan Magaji in Zaria.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Golf cars.
The vehicles were said to have collided triggering loud explosions, followed by a massive inferno and thick smoke that covered the highway.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the tragic incident in a post via his X handle, adding that many people were also injured in the accident.
“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” Makama quoted a witness as saying. said.
Emergency services and security personnel have cordoned off the area, advising motorists to avoid the route while rescue and recovery efforts continue.
