Cocoa trader commits suicide inside his shop in Osun

Tragedy as a Cocoa trader identified as Festus Olawale reportedly committed suicide in his cocoa store in Gbongan, Osun State.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the 43-year-old trader reportedly took his life by hanging himself in one of the rooms in his cocoa store located at Oke Ola area of the town on Friday, August 14.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.

The PPRO said the reason for the suicide is yet unknown as the deceased who is a father of four, did not leave behind a suicide note or acted strangely before the incident.

She said an investigation has commenced.

In a related story, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that traders at the popular Owode market in Ede North Local Government of Osun State were dispersed by security operatives yesterday as part of measures to curb spread of COVID-19.

The Government of Osun state had earlier directed last Friday that weekly markets (one of which is Owode market suspended indefinitely).
