Borno Govt allocates houses to 24 teachers 

The Borno Government on Thursday allocated houses to 24 primary school teachers in the state to improve their welfare.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that the houses, constructed by Gov. Babagana Zulum, were inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari during a recent visit to Maiduguri for the 2022 World Humanitarian Day.

Presenting the houses to the beneficiaries, Mr Lawan Wakilbe, the state  Commissioner for Education, said they were were selected based on merit from different schools.

Wakilbe explained that the houses consisted of 12 units each of fully furnished two bedrooms, a parlour, kitchen and two self-contained toilets.

He charged teachers to take good care of the facility as it is an institutional property.

He disclosed that the state government has constructed similar edifices in Banki town of Bama and Mafa Local Government Areas.

He said that the government would extend such gesture to other local government areas in the state in order to provide accommodation for hardworking teachers across the state.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Mr Yuguda Vungas, said the gesture was to put smiles on the faces of civil servants to enhance efficient service delivery.

In their remarks, the Executive Chairman, Teaching Service Board (TSB), Prof. Suleiman Bello; the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Bulama Kagu; the state Chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Jibrin Mohammed, commended Zulum’s polices and programmes in enhancing teachers’ welfare.

The officials however enjoined the teachers to re-dedicate themselves to duty.

They also urged the workers to reciprocate the good intention of the present administration by ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.
