NANS threatens Nigerian Army, calls for the release of arrested Students

Protesting TASUED STUDENTS

The National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Asefon Sunday has given a 24hrs ultimatum to the Nigerian Army for the release of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) students arrested yesterday, including the student Union president

Recall that men of the Nigerian Army, yesterday, arrested scores of TASUED students including the Student union President Sodiq Ridwan, following a protest by the students and subsequently taken to Ilese Barracks, Ijebu ode

In a video clip made Available to WITHIN NIGERIA, gunshots were heard within the student environment.

In a press release obtained by WITHIN NIGERIA, Asefon described the arrest as unjust and provoking citing that students were arrested without recourse to the rights and privileges of the rule of law provided by the Constitution

“The intimidation, harassment and summary incarceration without recourse to the rights and privileges of Nigerians or the rule of law as provided by the constitution is a bold reminder of the daylight impunity, overbearing posture, suppression, oppression and abuse of power during the military junta”

“It is therefore incumbent on us as the most populous, virile and ideological students movement in Africa to address the growing rate of similar fragrant abuse of state power by men of the military against armless students and Nigerians”

The National President issued a 24hrs Ultimatum to the Nigerian Army to release the arrested Students’ or face the wrath of students Nationwide

I therefore, on the potency of the mandate of all Nigerian Students across board, give a 24hrs ultimatum for the unconditional release of all our students being held at the barrack”

“Failure to company with this ultimatum, I advise the Nigeria Army in Ogun State to immediately begin to mobilize arms and calling for re-enforcement as I will relocate the National Secretariat of NANS to Ogun State, specifically the Ilese Barrack, lead from the front with thousands of students mobilized across the nation and either get killed by the trigger happy soldiers or enforce the release of our students”
