NNPP can’t upend APC in Kano, says Osinbajo ally, Kabiru Gaya

Kabiru Gaya

Kabiru Gaya, senator representing Kano south district, says he’s confident of All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the 2023 elections.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists at his Kano residence, on Monday, Gaya, an ally of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, said the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will not pose a threat to the APC.

The senator was the director-general of the support groups of Osinbajo when the vice-president sought the presidential ticket of the APC.

“In Kano, we have two political parties — the APC and the PDP. The PDP split into two with the Kwankwassiyya forming NNPP,” he said.

“We still have only APC and PDP in Kano. So, I am optimistic APC will win Kano in 2023.”

Though Gaya said Kawu Sumaila, NNPP senatorial candidate and his major challenger, is pulling crowd in Kano, he expressed hope that he will be re-elected.

Sumaila was an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on national assembly (house of representatives) matters.

“Kawu is doing well, but I have more crowd than him, and I believe I will win the election,” he said.

Gaya advised politicians to work for the interest and welfare of the people and stop engaging in vote buying.

He also said with the new electoral act, it will be difficult to rig elections in 2023.

“Politicians should stop using money to buy votes. Do projects that touch the lives of the people and they will vote for you,” he said.

“That is what has been working for me. I have been in the senate four times, and I am going for the fifth time.

“People vote for me because of the projects I do for them. I have seen people from other political parties coming to me to say that they will vote for them. And they do so because I carry out projects that have impacted positively on their lives.”
