LIONEL MESSI became the most-decorated player in Barcelona’s history after bagging trophy No33 on Sunday night.

The reigning La Liga champions beat Sevilla 2-1 in the Spanish Super Cup thanks to a stunning, late strike from Ousmane Dembele.

It was the first time Messi, 31, had lifted the trophy as captain after he took over the role from Andres Iniesta this summer.

The Spanish maestro, 34, left the Nou Camp after a 22-year love-affair with the club to join Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

And it was Iniesta that Messi overtook to become the most-decorated Barcelona star of all time.

Going into the clash in Morocco, both Messi and Iniesta were tied on 32 trophies apiece after glittering careers at the club.

But Messi added to his already ridiculous haul in the 2-1 victory – as Gerard Pique also scored in the win.

The Argentine superstar has won nine La Liga crowns, four Champions League, three Club World Cups, six Copa del Rey crowns, eight Spanish Super Cups and three Uefa Super Cups.

In fact, Messi has never gone an entire season without getting his hands on a trophy.

And he will be hoping to add to his incredible tally this season as Barcelona once again compete for multiple honours.
