Magistrates’ court adjourns trial of man who chopped off Amaechi’s right hand

The trial of a 67-year-old fish farmer, Jeremiah Obrifor has been adjourned till October 2 by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednessday.

The fish farmer who was arraigned before the Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly chopping off the right hand of a 11-year-old boy, Goodluck Amaechi.

A new date was fixed by the court due to absence of Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo who is currently on Annual leave.

Newmen gathered that families of Obrifor and Amaechi’s are considering settlement out of court.

The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba brought Obrifor before the court on June 15, on a four-count charge of attempted murder, grievous harm and unlawful assault.

The Prosecuting counsel, Inspector Chinalu Uwadione told the court that the defendant committed the offences at about 8:40pm on June 7, at 14, Issa Ibrahim Street, Okokomaiko, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant chopped off Amaechi’s right hand with a machete, for allegedly attempting to steal fish from his (Obrifor’s) pond.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections 173, 230, 245 and 246 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was granted N1million bail.
