A Nigerian court has sentenced a 30-year-old fraudster identified as Gabriel Oluokun to 5 year jail sentence for defrauding a Taiwanese to the tune of $22,300 (Twenty-Two Thousand, Three Hundred United States Dollars).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office arraigned the suspect on a six-count amended charge of obtaining money by false pretence.

This is coming after the anti-graft agency received a petition from one Nduka Lucious in which he alleged that the convict collected the sum of $22,300 from him in three installments on the agreement that he would supply 100 metric tonnes of sesame seed to one Victoria Xhung, a China-based Taiwanese businesswoman whom the petitioner represents in Nigeria.

It was further learnt that the suspect, Olokun failed to deliver the product as promised and allegedly converted the sum to his personal use.

Presiding over the case, Justice Abdulmalik convicted the defendant on counts one to four and acquitted him on counts five and six.

According to report, the suspect, Oluokun was sentenced to five years imprisonment on each of the four counts and they are to run concurrently.

Olokun who is now a convict will be forfeiting his Toyota Corolla to the Federal government.

Justice Abdulmalik ordered the convict to restitute his victim the sum of $22,300 with the caveat that the jail term would be extended by additional two years if he failed to refund the money.
