Fayose speaks on Ebonyi Gov, Umahi’s defection

The former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has stated that defection of governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation.

Recall that Umahi on Tuesday formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he left the party because of the “injustice” meted against south-east.

His defection has sparked a controversy in his former party, with Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman, saying Nigeria would soon know the real reason behind Umahi’s exit from the opposition party.

In a tweet, Fayose faulted the reason Umahi gave for his defection.

The former governor said Umahi’s action “dampens hope for liberation”, adding that Nigerians will laugh last.

“Gov Umahi defected to APC long ago before this unjustifiable move, which clearly has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation. This is a reflection of the type of leadership our country parades,” Fayose wrote.

Fayose is not the only PDP member who has openly disagreed with Umahi over his defection.

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, had said that the Ebonyi governor left PDP because of  2023 presidential ambition.
