AMINU DALHATU: Meet Jigawa-born Diplomat now a non-career ambassador nominee

President Bola Tinubu has nominated three non-career ambassadors to represent Nigeria in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, with their postings expected to be confirmed after Senate screening.


This is coming nearly two years after Tinubu recalled all Nigerian ambassadors, both career and non‑career, in September 2023.

The nominees are Kayode Are of Ogun State, Aminu Dalhatu of Jigawa, and Ayodele Oke of Oyo State.

He is a native of Jigawa State

He is a seasoned Nigerian diplomat

He served as an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Korea (South Korea) Embassy of Nigeria, Seoul, from 2017 to 2023

He presented letters of credence in September 2017 under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration

He oversaw diplomatic operations, consular services, and promotion of Nigeria-Korea relations, including trade, investment, and cultural exchanges

He served as a career diplomat in the Nigerian Foreign Service, with prior postings and roles in international diplomacy

He contributed to Nigeria’s foreign policy implementation across various capacities within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

He advanced diplomatic training and qualifications through the Nigerian Foreign Service

He served in various foreign missions, showcasing his commitment to Nigeria’s foreign policy and international representation

He is renowned for his professionalism and decades of diplomatic service

Recently, he was nominated for an ambassadorial post in 2025 by President Bola Tinubu, alongside Kayode Are and Ayodele Oke.
