Kano anti-graft agency tasks stakeholders on collaborative efforts

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission(PCACC) on Wednesday called on relevant stakeholders to work together to reduce corruption to the barest minimum in the state.

The PCACC Acting Executive Chairman, Mahmoud Balarabe, made the call during a 2-day capacity building training for Kano State Anti-Corruption Strategy (KANSACS) Monitoring and Evaluation Committee in Kano.

He said “Kano State has been a pacesetter in the country being the first state to establish an Anti-Corruption agency at the sub-national level. Also, the first to implement an Executive Order establishing Open Governance Partnership (OGP) and all other mechanisms that curtail the menace in Kano.”

According to him, the aim of KANSACS is to improve good governance in public institutions, especially at state and local government levels.

He commended Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for his desire to ensure that corruption is reduced in public institutions in the state through legal and institutional reforms as well as policy directives.

He similarly commended the Rule of Law and Anti-corruption (RoLAC), a program that is funded by the European Union and implemented by the British Council for supporting the commission to achieve its desired goals.

Earlier, Dr. Ada Chidi-Igbokwe, Rolac Consultant, urged the newly inaugurated members of the committee to be conscious, honest in line with the principle of good governance while discharging their assigned duties.

On his part, Mr. Isah Bello, a member of the staff of PCACC and Deputy Coordinator KANSACS,  noted that corruption is found in every society.

” It is the effectiveness of the laws, institutions, and policies put in place for preventing and fighting corruption that make the difference between nations.” he said.

He explained that the factors responsible for corruption in society are numerous, calling on the committee members to put their efforts into reducing the menace.

He said, “The committee is to monitor and evaluate the performance of the KANSACS implementation units that have been established across the MDA in the state.” (NAN)
