Nigerian singer, writer and social activist Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has accused Yoruba people of frequently harassing and terrorising Igbo in the southwest during elections.
The Veteran Musician made the accusation in an recent Twitter post.
Charly Boy, on Saturday, had tweeted that he is yet to hear of harassment on citizens of Yoruba extraction within the southeast as often as he learns of the victimisation dealt on the Igbo people in western Nigeria by the Yoruba.
The 70-year-old alleged that the Igbos are frequently targets of ethnic rivalry whenever an electioneering season draws closer.
“Almost 70 years, I have lived. I have never heard any story of my Yoruba brothers being harassed or terrorized in the eastern part of this country,” the tweet read.
“Why is the reverse the case in the west? What offense did their Igbo brothers commit to always be targeted any time election draws near?”

Recall that in 2015, during build-up to the state governorship election, The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, stirred up controversy over threats against Igbos in Lagos who wanted to vote against his preferred candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Also, a recent viral throwback video of Remi Tinubu jovially threatening Igbos in Lagos who are not in support of her husband, Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition, stirred up social media reactions and comments questioning the ordination of the Senator as RCCG pastor.
