A native of Kansas, 32-year-old Wichita was killed after his dog pulled the trigger while they were driving.
The Sumner County Sheriff’s office recently told local outlet KWCH that the hunter’s dog stepped on the rifle while it was in the back seat, causing it to discharge in the owner’s direction.
The victim, who was sitting in the truck’s front passenger seat, was struck in the back as he and the pet were out on a hunting excursion on Saturday, January 22. The Sumner County Sheriff’s office said:
“A canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the rifle, causing the weapon to discharge. The fired round struck the passenger, who died of his injuries on scene.”
The sheriff’s office added in a separate statement:
“The investigation is ongoing, but the preliminary investigation shows it to be a hunting related accident.”
After cops arrived the scene of the incident at north of Geuda Springs, they found the man in the front seat. They started CPR immediately, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
