Nigerians call for release of over 60 OAU students arrested in the early hours of the morning

  • Netizens have taken to social media to call for the unconditional release of students of OAU who were reportedly arrested.
  • Operative of the EFCC had allegedly stormed into hostels of the students in Ife, Osun state.
  • The raid was said to have taken place between 1:00am and 4:00am today, Wednesday.

Nigerians have called for the release of over sixty students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU that were reportedly arrested in their hostel around 1am on Wednesday, 1st of November 2023.

The claim was made by a netizen identified as @SonayanAjose on X platform, formerly known as Twitter.

He notified the public that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) illegally raided the private hostels in Ife, Osun state and arrested over sixty students.

The Netizen also added that the officials raided from one hostel to another another around 1:30am to 4am with no search warrant, forcefully entering the rooms of hostel occupants and assaulting students.

According to some other students who reportedly witnessed the incidence, they forced over sixty students into a bus, maltreating them and conveying them to an undisclosed location.

Some other post claims the students have been moved from Ile-Ife to Ibadan following their arrest.

Nigerians and alumni’s of the great institution have now called for the unconditional release of all arrested students tagging the EFCC official account on all social media platforms while describing the situation as disheartening.

@greatife_su wrote: We strongly condemn the recent unjust arrest and harassment of our fellow students by members of the EFCC @officialEFCC in the odd hours of today, Nov 1st, 2023. This action is unacceptable and goes against the principles of justice and due process.

We stand in solidarity with our peers and call for a thorough investigation into these incidents. The safety and rights of students must be protected.
