My brother Kola was dating Babangida’s daughter while my dad was in jail – Abiola’s son fumes in viral video

According to the annals of Nigerian history, the late MKO Abiola and Babangida, two political titans, were arch-nemesis, locked in a bitter struggle for power. Abiola's fate was sealed when he was imprisoned for four long years, only to meet his untimely demise behind bars, a move widely seen as a ruthless ploy by IBB to consolidate his grip on power. The wounds of that tumultuous era still linger, and Abiola's son, Mumuni, has reignited the flames of controversy by publicly castigating his brother Kola for his perceived betrayal. Mumuni's ire was ignited by Kola's romantic entanglement with IBB's daughter during their father's incarceration, a move he deemed a treacherous stab in the back. With a fierce passion, Mumuni excoriated Kola's political aspirations, labeling him unfit to carry the torch of their father's legacy.

  • Abdul, a son of the late Nigerian icon MKO Abiola, has ignited a political firestorm by vehemently dismissing his brother Kola’s presidential aspirations in a candid interview
  • With unbridled frankness, Abdul unleashed a scathing critique, asserting that his elder brother lacks the mettle to lead Nigeria, having demonstrably failed to effectively manage their father’s vast business empire.
  • Abdul’s blistering attack didn’t stop there, as he also leveled a shocking allegation, accusing Kola of engaging in a romantic relationship with IBB’s daughter during their father’s imprisonment under IBB’s regime – a bombshell revelation that has left political observers reeling.

Abdul Mumuni, the son of the late Nigerian icon MKO Abiola, has unleashed a blistering attack on his elder brother Kola, vehemently declaring him unfit to rule Nigeria.

In a recent explosive episode of the Mic On Podcast, Mumuni launched a scathing critique, alleging that Kola was romantically entangled with the daughter of former President Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) while their father languished in prison, a move he deemed a betrayal of their father’s legacy.

Mumuni also excoriated Kola for failing to sustain Abiola’s political influence and unite the family, said he left a trail of broken dreams and shattered legacies in his wake.

“I blame him for how Abiola’s legacy turns out because he was in a pivotal position after the crisis. He could have been a strong voice of true democratic value but he chose not to,” he said.

“Apparently, at the time my father was still in jail, he was having a relationship with Babangida’s daughter. It’s sad, but I am a little pleased that my father didn’t come out to see what his first son has turned out to become.”

Like Abiola, Kola contested for the presidency under the Peoples Redemption Party in the 2023 elections.

Speaking further, Mumuni said he did not back Kola’s presidential ambition because he believed he “is not fit to rule Nigeria”.

“I’m unhappy with him, even Nigerians are unhappy. We saw how many people voted for him when he campaigned for the presidency,” he added.

“I wondered how he thought he could be president when he could not manage Abiola’s empire. How do you want to manage Nigeria? How does that work?”

Abiola was a Nigerian businessman, publisher, and politician. The acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election died in military detention on July 7, 1998.

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), former head of state, inexplicably annulled the June 12, 1993, general election — which was considered by most Nigerians as the freest and fairest poll in the country’s history.

It was widely believed that Abiola was leading when Babangida annulled the election. Abiola was also imprisoned.
