Why I knocked altar boy’s head in viral clip – Catholic Priest speaks amid backlash from Bovi, Kate Henshaw

This incident involving the priest smacking an altar boy’s head during a sacred ceremony brings forward a deeper moral reflection on the nature of control, respect, and leadership. The fact that the priest allowed frustration to dictate his actions, even momentarily, is a stark reminder of how easily human emotions can lead us astray from our higher principles. However, the true lesson lies in his apology

  • Kate Henshaw, Bovi, Korede Bello, and a wave of critics recently joined forces, dragging a Catholic priest into the spotlight after he publicly knocked an altar boy on the head, sparking outrage.
  • As the backlash gained momentum, the priest found himself cornered, facing a flood of condemnation from all sides.
  • In response to the mounting pressure, he released a video, addressing the uproar head-on, laid bare the reasons behind his actions, delving into the details that led to the controversial moment.

A Nigerian Catholic priest, caught in the eye of a social media storm, has issued a public apology after igniting outrage for smacking an altar server on the head during a wedding ceremony.

The clip shows the young boy struggling to keep the microphone steady for the groom while the couple exchanged their vows. The priest, visibly irritated by the boy’s fumbles, delivered a head knock that instantly set social media ablaze, with reactions and outrage pouring in from all corners.

Prominent celebrities like Kate Henshaw, Bovi, and Korede Bello led the charge, branded the act as disgraceful and utterly unacceptable, especially in the solemn context of a sacred wedding ceremony.

As the public outcry intensified, the priest—whose identity remains shrouded—was forced to address the growing backlash.

In a video released to the public, he expressed deep regret for his actions. He issued an apology directly to the altar boy and his family, acknowledging the pain and embarrassment his actions caused.

Referring to his behavior as a “mistake,” he tried to shed light on the moment that led him to act out of frustration.

While apologizing to his parents, the priest uttered:

“This your boy was handling mic and he did not hold the microphone well towards the mouth of the person that will confess their vow. So accidentally or mistakenly, I knocked his head

“Eventually someone took the picture and posted it on the internet. They said I should come and apologise to your family and to him, that I am sorry for what happened.

“It was not a deliberate act. It was just something I did unconsciously because of the people who were doing the wedding. That was what precipitated the action. I am very sorry”.
