  • After being struck by a devastating blow in his career, Divine Oduduru has finally opened up about the painful spiral that followed, one that has seen him fall from the heights of stardom to the depths of despair.
  • He confessed that, on more than one occasion, he came dangerously close to ending it all, overwhelmed by the darkness that seemed to consume him.

Nigerian sprinter Ejowvokoghene Divine Oduduru has broken his silence in an extraordinary and hauntingly candid revelation, confessing that the six-year ban imposed by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for violating anti-doping rules drove him into an abyss of unimaginable pain and suffering.

With shocking vulnerability, Oduduru disclosed that the immense weight of disgrace and the loss of his career led him to attempt suicide four times, each attempt a desperate cry from a man who had lost everything—his pride, his purpose, and the very identity that had defined him for years.

Divine Oduduru, renowned for his blazing speed with a personal best of 9.86 seconds in the 100 metres and a national record of 19.73 seconds in the 200 metres, opened up about his devastating ordeal in an emotional Instagram post.

In the midst of the storm, he expressed immense gratitude to his loyal supporters, who stood by him through thick and thin.

In October 2023, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) dropped a bombshell, slapping him with a 6year ban for allegedly possessing and attempting to use banned substances. To make matters worse, he was hit with a $3,000 fine for the case’s legal costs.

The news left Oduduru reeling, his mind shattered by disbelief as the weight of the suspension crushed his mental well-being. For years, he was forced into silence, grappling with the anguish of it all.
