A dramatic apology video from a man identified as Justice Ozobi, who recently issued a death threat against Nigerian author and political commentator, Reno Omokri, has triggered fresh outrage.
Rather than offering forgiveness, Omokri has outrightly rejected the apology and escalated the matter by calling for legal prosecution — while also using the moment to criticize Labour Party’s Peter Obi and journalist Rufai Oseni.
The saga began after Ozobi, in a now-viral video, threatened Omokri over his constant criticism of Peter Obi. The video drew widespread condemnation online and sparked discussions around political extremism on social media.
Days later, Ozobi released an apology, claiming his actions were not politically motivated and that he wasn’t a supporter of Obi or any political party.
He blamed his initial video on frustration caused by hunger and the hardship in the country, alleging that his anger was provoked by Reno Omokri’s open support for the ruling government.
However, Reno Omokri was not moved. In his response, he dismissed the apology as “not genuine” and insisted the authorities should prosecute Ozobi. He further used the opportunity to criticize what he described as a pattern among some supporters of Peter Obi, accusing them of being intolerant to differing opinions.
Omokri went on to attack Peter Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, alleged that Obi doubled poverty during his tenure — a claim he challenged others to fact-check.
He also mentioned Arise TV host Rufai Oseni, questioning why Obi and Rufai would be openly supported while threats are made against dissenting voices.
He wrote;
“This apology video is not genuine. The police should prosecute him. Fact-check me: Peter Obi doubled poverty in Anambra, yet you and Rufai Oseni support him and want to kpai me!”

No police investigation has been officially announced as of press time, but Omokri’s firm position has intensified pressure on law enforcement to respond.
