Nigerian social media critic, Martin’s Vincent Otse aka Verydarkman, is under fire online after a recent report revealed that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has rewarded Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu, with a house and ₦50 million.

According to reports, Governor Fintiri presented the coach with a fully furnished bungalow and a ₦50 million cash reward in recognition of his contribution to Nigeria’s national women’s football team. The reward ceremony reportedly took place at the Government House in Yola, Adamawa State.

The development has sparked a fresh wave of criticism directed at Verydarkman, who had earlier lambasted Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma for hosting and celebrating seven Super Falcons players of Igbo extraction.

In a viral post, Verydarkman described Uzodinma’s gesture as a “tribal bigot move,” accused him of only recognizing players based on ethnicity.

Following the Adamawa Governor’s solo recognition of Coach Madugu—who also hails from Adamawa—social media users have resurfaced Verydarkman’s comments and called out what they perceive as a double standard.

Although Coach Madugu’s role as a native of Adamawa State justifies the state-level recognition, critics of Verydarkman argue that his silence on the Adamawa gesture contradicts his prior outrage over Uzodinma’s event.

The development has triggered widespread debates online about state-based recognition, ethnic sensitivity, and selective criticism by influencers.

Many users, via video, and comments online have insisted that state governments are permitted to honour individuals with ties to their regions without necessarily being accused of ethnic bias.

As of press time, Verydarkman had not responded to the new backlash or addressed the comparisons being drawn between the two state governors’ actions.

This comes amid heightened attention on how government officials and public commentators handle issues of ethnic representation, especially when tied to national sports achievements like those of the Super Falcons.
