A serious allegation has resurfaced against former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as a young woman, Hadiza Musa Baffa, publicly accused him of raping her in 2014 and intimidating her into silence for more than a decade.
In a video published by Sahara Reporters on Thursday, Hadiza spoke emotionally about the incident, alleging that the senior lawyer used his influence to suppress her voice and subject both her and her child to years of harassment. She further claimed that Turaki is the biological father of her child.
According to Hadiza, the alleged assault took place in September 2014, while she was a student at Base University, Abuja. She recounted that Turaki had sent his driver to pick her up and bring her to a residence in Asokoro, Abuja. At about 1 a.m., she alleged, the former minister gained access to her room and raped her.
“He raped me that night and asked me not to say anything. I was really scared to talk,” she said tearfully in the video, adding that the trauma was evident when she returned to school the following day.
Hadiza also addressed the controversy surrounding a letter that has circulated online about the case. She strongly denied being the author, insisting she had no knowledge of its origin or intent. “I didn’t write any letter and I have no idea about that letter or why the person that wrote it wrote it,” she clarified.
As the case gains traction online, questions remain about whether Nigerian authorities will open an official investigation into the allegations, nearly eleven years after the incident was said to have occurred.
The controversy not only places Turaki under renewed scrutiny but also reignites national conversations around sexual assault, accountability, and the misuse of political power in Nigeria.
