The Ogun Youth Consultative Vanguard, has accused Senator from Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu of planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The group claimed that Kashamu has been secretly “hob-knobbing” with chieftains of the APC in Abuja, with a view to defecting to the latter.

The claim was contained in a statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Ezekiel Adesina, and secretary, Mr Johnson Adetoun, over the weekend.

The group described the alleged defection plot as a scheme by the senator to hide under the protection of the ruling party against threats to have him extradited to the United States to answer to charges against him.

They claimed that, “lately, capitalising on his recent expulsion from the PDP and the recent gale of defection that led to many senators and House of Representatives members defecting from the APC to the main opposition PDP, Kashamu has intensified moves to defect to the APC.

“In achieving this desperate objective, he has already secured the assistance of a governorship aspirant of the ruling APC in Ogun State, who is also his very close ally, to help him reach out to the powers-that-be in the Presidency in Abuja to apprise them of his desire to move over to the ruling party and convince them to facilitate his defection.

“We also want to remind the federal government that accepting or facilitating Kashamu’s defection into the fold of the ruling party to give him refuge would portray both the APC and the federal government in very bad light as mere hypocrites paying lip service to fighting corruption.”
