Women Protest Attacks, Killings By Gunmen In Taraba

Women of Kona community in Jalingo Local Council of Taraba State on Tuesday protested attacks and killings by gunmen who recently invaded their community.

The women who are protesting over the deaths of their husbands and children in the attacks marched through Kona Garu streets in Jalingo and culminate at ATC.

According to them, the killing is overwhelmingly terrifying as the bandits invade the communities on motorcycles shooting sporadically and burning down houses.

They also demanded the immediate release of their youths who they claimed were arrested. The women also alleged that the Army stopped them in the course of the protest and injured some of them.

Commanding officer 20 Model Battalion, Serti, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Adamu in a telephone interview, however, denied the involvement of his men.

The Police spokesperson, David Misal said adequate security was given to the protesting women while marching the streets. He said calm has been restored to the affected communities.

He also confirmed the arrest of some youths in possession of some dangerous weapons and investigation is in top gear already.

Villagers claim that not less than eight persons were killed in the attacks which affected communities in Kona and ATC.

The attacks were carried out on Sunday and Monday.

The state government has since imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the affected areas.
