18-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison by an Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos for stabbing a man who was celebrating with his football team after winning a match.

The suspect identified as Adamu Saidu was sentenced by Justice Lawal Suleiman Friday, November 1st after he pleaded guilty to causing grievous hurt and begged the court for leniency.

However, an option to pay a fine of N100,000 was given to the convict by Justice Suleiman and also ordered the convict to pay N5,000 to the complainant, Gali Khali.

“The judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such a grievous criminal act of causing hurt. Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Oct. 11, at the Laranto Police Station by Khali, Justice Suleiman said.
