Three students have been remanded on Thursday by Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly involving in examination malpractice during the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The remanded students identified as Taofeek Badmus Busari, Adeyinka Afolabi Adeoye and Sulaiman Isah were dragged before Magistrate Adijat Oloyede by the Department of State Security (DSS) on a four-count charge that borders on cheating in exam hall as revealed by a charge sheet obtained in court.

The accused persons were said to have committed the malpractice while writing WASSCE on September 17, 2019 at Second Series of WAEC (also known as WAEC General Certificate Examination (GCE) at a centre in Osogbo.

The DSS prosecution stated that the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 1( d) and punishable under section 1 (2) (c) of the examination malpractice Act .1999.

The accused WAEC candidates pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them by the Director General of State Security.

Their counsels, Kehinde Ajibola and T. B. Awoyemi made oral bail applications for bail arguing that they were presumed innocent until proven contrary by the court.

But the DSS prosecutor objected their bail applications and urged the court to remand them.

Magistrate (Mrs) Oloyede, thereby remanded the trio in Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till January 9, 2020 for hearing.

To this end, the students would be spending the forthcoming Christmas and New festivities in the custody.
