Makinde Meets IGP Over Amotekun, LG Dissolution

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde on Wednesday visited the Inspector General of Police, IGP Adamu Mohammed in Abuja declaring that his administration would not condone violence in the state. The governor, who spoke to newsmen at the premises of the Force Headquarters, stated that he had briefed the IGP on the security situation in the state.

Gov Makinde while speaking with newsmen after the meeting stated that the interaction was cordial and very impressive on all the issues deliberated upon.

Governor Makinde disclosed that his discussions with the IGP were centred on the issues surrounding the Western Nigeria Security Network, “Operation Amotekun and that he agreed to hold a meeting with the South-West governors to review the situation on ground.

He disclosed that the governors were working to get everyone to align with the essence of Operation Amotekun to avoid conflicts of any kind.

According to the governor, “everybody is aware of the issue with Amotekun, so we deliberated, we had an agreement in principle to have the governors of the South West to meet with him to review the situation on ground

“We are trying to build a new country where the rule of law is supreme, so everybody should be law-abiding, ensure that they don’t do anything that would create lawlessness “.

When the governor was asked about the status of Amotekun, he said, “It is work in progress, we are trying to operationalise it and in doing that, all the relevant stakeholders would have to align”.

On the sacked Local Government Chiefs, he said that the matter was being handled appropriately and that there was no cause for alarm.

Meanwhile, a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Taiwo Adisa, Makinde quoted the governor as saying his administration “does not want chaos in Oyo State.”

Speaking on the local government crisis, stressed that he would obey the judgment of the court once the pending appeals on the local government dissolution in the state are decided.
