Fire razes properties in Anambra community, NSCDC reacts

Following a fire outbreak which occured at a small retail food item stores located along mission road by Holy Cross near Juniorate secondary school Mgbuka Nkpor in Idemili North, Anambra state, the NSCDC Idemili North Divisional Office has reacted to the fire incident, saying it recieved a distress call of fire outbreak at about 03:43a.m on February 27th.

According to the statement released by the CDPRO NSCDC Anambra State Command, ASC Okadigbo Edwin, there was no loss of life nor injury recorded but shops and goods worth thousands of Naira were destroyed in the fire.

The victims of the fire incident who lost their properties to the razing fire were identified as Ukpo Sunday, Amaka Chinelo, Adaobi Offordile and Mrs Chinwe Ngwunta, from Izzy in Ebonyi state.

It was also stated that a widow with five children who allegedly kept all her money in the shop and was planning to make use of the money for her business also lost her properties to the fire.

According to the statement, NSCDC Idemili North Divisional Officer CSC Onwuakagba Stella and other sister security agencies mobilized officers to the scene, assisted the victims to recover some properties, cordoned off the area, and provide security in the area to avoid breach of peace and prevent some unscrupulous elements taking advantage of the situation to loot.

Reacting to the incident, the state Commandant of NSCDC, David Bille sympathized with the victims and ordered for an investigation into circumstances surrounding the incident.
