COVID-19: NCDC states position on UITH consultant, Salami’s case

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday said no punishment will be meted out on Prof. Alakija Salami, a Senior Consultant in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) for alleged unethical conducts.

Dr Alihu Adebara, NCDC Team Lead to Kwara State said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin, on Thursday.

Adebara said the agency has left the case to the state government to handle.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that Salami was suspended for alleged ‘unethical conducts and concealing’ the travel history and eventual release of the corpse of a suspected COVID-19 patient who died in UITH.

Shortly after the death of the suspected COVID-19 patient, Kwara Government confirmed two persons tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

“Basically, the NCDC has confirmed two cases of COVID-19 in the state and so many contact tracing of over 200 has commenced.

“We will offer the necessary support to complement the state government’s efforts,” Adebara added.

The NCDC Team Lead, warned residents in Kwara State to abide by the social distancing directives of the government.
