BREAKING: Stranded Nigerians in UK arrive in Lagos

Some Nigerians who were stranded in the United Kingdom following COVID-19 lockdown in the country on Friday arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

They arrived aboard a British Airway plane at the airport in the afternoon and are expected to be airlifted to Abuja where they will be quarantined for 14 days.

Recalls that the Federal government had earlier disclosed that there was discussions with the British Airways through the British High Commission to evacuate 300 Nigerians from London on Friday, March 8, are still ongoing.

Adding that arrangements with Ethiopian Airways to evacuate Nigerians from New York to Abuja are also ongoing as evacuees are expected on Monday, May 11.

The evacuation is as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected nearly 4 million people globally and caused over 200,000 deaths.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday about 256 Nigerians stranded at the United Arab Emirates arrived Nigeria aboard the Emirate Airlines and were taken into isolation in two hotels in Lagos.
