Media entrepreneur, Mo Abudu, has announced that her EbonyLife TV will no longer be available on DStv from July 31.

The 55-year-old made the announcement on Friday, July 3.

EbonyLife shows, she said, will be available on EbonyLife ON, a digital video-on-demand (VoD) service available on Google and iOS stores.

“Remember when we used to wait a whole week to watch our favourite TV shows? Well, those days are gone forever! Now, we can binge on the whole series if we want to. Therefore, we have decided that EbonyLife TV will no longer be available on DStv from 31st July 2020.”

The latest development comes exactly two years after EbonyLife announced that it had ended its exclusivity with DStv and began broadcasting on StarTimes from August 1, 2018.

MultiChoice Africa launched EbonyLife TV in July 2013 on DStv across Africa outside of South Africa.

The channel was added a year later in September 2014 for South African viewers.

Although it resonated with viewers West and East Africa, EbonyLife failed to make inroads with South and Southern African viewers.

While EbonyLife and MultiChoice are pulling the plug on their relationship, Abudu has found another partner in Netflix for which she will be producing plays by Wole Soyinka and Lola Shoneyin for the screen.
