The Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday announced the suspension of plenary for two weeks.

The house also ordered the fumigation and immediate disinfection of the Assembly complex.

The House said during the period of recess fumigation and disinfection of the Assembly complex would be carried out.

The Chairman, House Committee on Information and Media, Mr Kunle Akande, in a statement, added that the suspension of plenary was to enable members to take a break from the rigour of legislative activities.

The statement reads in part, “The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, in strict compliance with the World Health Organisation and the state government protocols on the containment of the virus, has ordered the fumigation and immediate disinfection of the House of Assembly complex.

“This is a proactive step targeted at curtailing the spread of coronavirus within the House of Assembly complex.

“While we underscore the importance of the legislature in a democratic setting, we’ve allowed essential administrative work and personnel to run upon disinfection of the premises. We advise the people of the State to consider using our recently deployed e-parliament platforms in getting across to the Assembly.”

Recall that the number of coronavirus cases in the state have risen in the last few weeks.

The development made the state to place a total lockdown on four Local Government Areas.
