Police nab Nigerian man with 55gm of banned substance in India

Police in India have arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian man identified as Vitalis Okolie for allegedly trafficking 55 grams of hard drugs.

This was disclosed to newsmen by Mumbai Anti Narcotics Cell Senior Inspector, NB Kolhatkar on Monday, July 27.

NB Kolharkar said acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid near a fast food joint in Kalamboli on Saturday evening July 25.

According to the police, Vitalis reportedly fell for the trap and he was nabbed with 55 grams of methaqualone, a sedative-hypnotic drug.

Okolie, who stays in Santacruz in neighboring Mumbai, has been charged under the NDPS Act.

He has been remanded in police custody.

In a related story, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that a Nigerian student at Roorkee Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand, India simply named Ibrahim and his Ghanaian counterpart Benjamin were assaulted on the college premises last week after they went out for dinner without a pass.

The school administration, it was gathered, had not granted passes since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Students faced problems after they ran out of money. They use to have their meals in the college canteen, but the manager stopped providing food after the student failed to pay,” India.com quoted a local source as saying.
