Enugu: Untold Story Of How Neighborhood Watch Members Allegedly Murdered 21 year-Old Only Son

The people of Amaozalla community, Nsukka local government area of Enugu state are yet to come to terms with exactly what happened in their community on Sunday, January 18, 2026, following alleged killing of one of their own, Obele Izuchukwu by members of Neighbourhood Watch of the community.

Obele Izuchukwu is said to be the only son of his parents.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that as at early hours of Monday, January 19, 2026, the entire residents have taken refuge in neighbouring communities like Ibagwa-Aka and Ovoko communities for fear of arrest by security operatives.

However, our source revealed that on Sunday, members of the vigilante group was said to have looked for Obele Izuchukwu for alleged stealing of some solar streetlights installed in the community.

Our source revealed that they have been accusing people especially some youths in the community of vandalizing their solar streetlights and Obele was one of the people they suspected.

“To confirm their suspicion, they said they had to consult one native doctor who told them that indeed Obele was one of the criminals who specialized in this unholy act.

“However, one Saturday night, Obele was said to be going back to his house around 10pm. Some members of Neighbourhood Watch security outfit with some other people stopped him.

“They started interrogating him and he told them that he was not the one who steal all those solar streetlights. He told them it was some Hausa people living around the area that vandalize and all thos public utilities.

“They started beating him to confess that he is among those vandals. He said he is not among but those Hausa people who use to pick scrap in the streets.

“The Neighbourhood Watch people and the youths didn’t waste time to kill him. They smashed his head and smashed his and went ahead to smash his genitals which led to his death in a painful way the following morning being Sunday.”

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that when they have seen that they have committed murder, they ran away leaving the victim all alone.

It was early morning that residents of the community discovered what has happened after his younger sister Adaora raised alarm over his whereabouts.

In any case, our reporter gathered that  the body of the deceased has been deposited at undisclosed mortuary.

All efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu state police command, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe proved abortive as he was not picking his calls.
