A suspected ritualist has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to sacrifice a 9-year-old girl in Ibaa community, Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the suspect identified simply as Achor, was caught after the girl’s parents had raised the alarm over her sudden disappearance and soldiers in the community embarked on a search.
According to a source in the community, the child was sent to dispose refuse in a nearby bush when the suspect dragged her into an abandoned compound where he had kept a coffin.
He tied the girl with white cloths, applied white clay on her body and was in the process of performing the ritual when the soldiers swooped in and arrested him.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident to PUNCH on Wednesday, said the suspect was handed over to the police in Rumuji.
Omoni said the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, had ordered that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
