The delay which graced the announcement of official results of primaries held by the Osun Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) to select candidates that would represent the party in various offices has taken a new dimension.

Recall that the Osun state chapter of the ruling party (APC) on Thursday, 26th of May, 2022 had opted for direct primary which gave access to all party members holding valid membership cards to vote for the aspirants of their choice at each ward’s collation centre of the 332 wards in the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not announced the official results of primary elections held in the state into various offices barely 72 hours after the completion of the voting exercise.

As party members await the release of results, a letter allegedly written by Chief Akinade M.A, the Commandant of Osun State Security Network Agency (AMOTEKUN) of Irewole Local Government has surfaced on social media which has heated the polity.

In the letter titled “Security Report on APC House of Assembly Irewole/Isokan State Constituency Primary Election” which was seen by WITHIN NIGERIA, the Commandant listed the names of five aspirants namely; Hon. Akinola Olasunkanmi, Mr. Owoade Ademola, Mr Oyebade Adebisi Abideen, Hon. Olanrewaju Moruf and Mr Mustapha Olaide.

Chief Akinade, the commandant via the letter further stated that there was peace and harmony before, during and after the primary election.

He further disclosed that One of the aspirants identified as Oyegbade Adebisi Abideen scored the highest number of votes.

While appealing to the authority to announce the name of the winner who scored the highest number of votes, Chief Akinade via the letter called on the authority to dismiss petition written by some youths that there would be breakdown of peace and order if the name of the supposed winner is announced.

Following the emergence of the said letter which has gone viral, a lot of social media users including members of All Progressives Congress (APC) have condemned the content of the letter, tagging it as an abuse of protocol.

A party member and social media commentator identified as Suleiman Aroso while criticising the said letter called on Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the party leadership to investigate the matter.

Another social media user identified as Arinola Adeleke said it is an abuse of protocol and such move should not be tolerated.

When contacted, Chief Akinade via a telephone interview told WITHIN NIGERIA that such letter did not emanate from his office.

While stating that he has not seen the letter, Chief Akinade stressed that some people probably have written out their opinion about the matter and put it in such format.

According to Chief Akinade, if there is a need to write such security report, it would be forwarded to my superiors at the top and there would be a signature too.

‘As a security officer, it is not even possible for me to write a security report in such manner. I can not write a letter without signature or logo of the security outfit. The letter is anonymous and did not emanate from me. I have no knowledge of the letter’, he added.
