Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, died from heart arrest at the age of 60.
Recall that Ewhrudjakpo collapsed in his office in the afternoon and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, the state capital.
A reliable source, an Ijaw chieftain, disclosed that a cardiologist at FMC declared him dead upon arrival.
The source said, “He suffered a cardiac arrest in his office at the Government House and was rushed to the FMC. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
According to the source, the remains of Ewrujakpor were immediately transported to an undisclosed mortuary in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He was born on September 5, 1965, into the family of Chief and Mrs. Awhowho Ewhrudjakpo in Ofoni in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State
He attended the Ebikimiye Primary School in Kpakiama, where he graduated in 1976
He continued his education at Government College Bomadi in 1982
He later completed his secondary education at Community Secondary School, Ofoni, where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1987

He later studied law between 2002 and 2007 at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology and was called to the bar in 2009
He was conferred Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Human Rights and Labour Law on 16 December 2023 by the Rivers State University of Science and Technology
He was a proud Ijaw and a devoted Christian.He served as a commissioner for works and infrastructure (2012 – 2019)
He served as a senator representing Bayelsa West (2019-2020)
He served as a Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State (2020-2025)
He slumped and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for urgent medical attention on 11 December, 2025
He eventually died at the age of 60 after he did not respond to medical treatment.
