Hadiza Balarabe, first female deputy governor in northern Nigeria, is pictured on her first day in office

Hadiza Balarabe is the first female deputy governor in Kaduna state and the first in Northern Nigeria. Her inauguration yesterday May 29th was met with stiff opposition by some men from Northern Nigeria who are of the belief that a woman is not meant to be allowed to occupy such an exhalted position.

She is pictured above with Governor Nasir El-Rufai as they resumed work today May 30th. See more photos below
